Yogurt and Yeast Infections

There have been studies that the daily intake of yogurt that has Lactobacillus acidophilus in it will deter yeast infections. Even applying yogurt to the vagina can help take care of the infection. Although you should make sure you do not have any allergies to yogurt before using it as a remedy. However, keeping the vagina healthy is a complicated task as our bodies are full of microorganisms which take care of our insides. But sometimes there are factors which interfere with these microorganisms which in turn causes yeast infections. Stress and the use of antibiotics are just a couple of the causes that give women a white secretion, smarting, itching and also an odor.

Yes yogurt and yeast infections work together to help cure the illness. Lactobacillus acidophilus is a good bacteria and this is the one that controls the Candida and deters yeast infections. So if you are suffering from a vaginitis this is the bacteria you want more of. And it can be found in yogurt, if on the packaging it reads “live cultures”. It has been said and recommended by women that if you eat at least 8 oz of plain yogurt daily it may help you avoid getting an infection.

If you do not like yogurt there are pills you can take which you can get from a health food store. Also if you are going to insert yogurt into the vagina or apply it to the outside make sure the yogurt has no sugar, this can also help contain infections. But if you maintain a good diet and stay away from lots of sugar and fats and processed foods then you should have a healthy vagina. Another idea is to put the yogurt in plastic gloves and freeze them and they can be inserted like a tampon, although this can be a bit unpleasant so use a pad for the day.

Even though it has not been proven that yogurt is a miracle cure, yogurt and yeast infections seem to react to each other, and there is a very low possibility of any side effects. Plus it is cheap to try this as a natural medication. Anything natural must be good for your body. We all know the chemicals that are in all products from soaps to perfumes which can be harmful and therefore increase our chance of becoming infected.

If yogurt hasn’t worked for you, seek advice from a health-care worker and they can advise you on other treatments like a topical anti-fungal medication. But there is lots of information on home remedies and this is worthwhile spending some time reading informative material on yeast infections and natural cures.
